"하나님이 세상을 이처럼 사랑하사 독생자를 주셨으니
이는 저를 믿는 자마다 멸망치 않고 영생을 얻게 하려 하심이니라" (요3:16).
만일 우리가 성경 전체에서 또 다른 약속이 없다고 가정 할 경우
이것으로 개인의 구주께 산 믿음이 없는 모든 영혼을 저주하기에 충분하지 않는가?
"저를 믿는 자마다...." 하나님이 독생자를 주셨으니 누구든지,
그 누구든지는 당신과 나를 의미하며
부모들과 자녀들을 의미한다.
그리스도가 누구를 위하여 죽었는가?
선택된 소수를 위함이었는가?
그것은 범죄로 인하여 타락한 세상, 즉 온 세상을 위함이다.
아담과 하와는 범죄로 인하여 죄인이 되었으며
현재 주께서 당신의 독생자를 이 세상에 주셨다.
아담이 범한 바로 그 율법을 없애려고 한 것인가?
당신은 그렇게 읽는가? 나는 그렇지 않다.
만일 그렇다면, 아담 한테 뭐가 문제가 있었는가?
아담은 하나님이 한가지 금한 것을 감히 범했으며
그것은 하나님이 사람에게 주셔서 그의 충성과 순종을 시험하는 시금석이었다.
촛점은 (선악을) 알게하는 나무의 열매 안에 있는 것이 아니고
아담이 사단의 말을 귀담아 듣고 감히 범죄하였다는데 있다.
여기에 "너희가 결코 죽지 아니하리라"라는
유혹자의 말을 귀담아 듣던 하와도 있었다.
하나님은 "네가 먹는 날에는 죽으리라" 라고 말했다.

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).
Suppose that we had not another promise in all the lids of the Scripture,
is not this enough to condemn every soul that has not a living faith in a personal Saviour?
"Whosoever believeth in Him. . . ." God gave His only begotten Son that whosoever,
and that whosoever means you and me, it means parents and children.
For whom did Christ die? Was it for a select few? It was for the whole world,
the world that was fallen because of transgression.
Adam and Eve became sinners because of transgression,
and now the Lord has given to the world His only begotten Son--
that He might abolish the law? that law that Adam transgressed?
Do you read it thus? I do not.
Well, then, what was the matter with Adam?
Adam ventured to transgress one prohibition of God,
which was the test that God gave to man to try his loyalty and obedience.
There was nothing in the fruit of the tree of knowledge that was a point in itself,
but the point was in Adam's listening to Satan, and venturing to transgress.
Here was Eve listening to the voice of the tempter. "Ye shall not surely die."
God said, "If ye eat of it, ye shall die. "
